NEWSLETTER #3, January 19, 1990
_____________________________________________________________
1. A new mutation was reported by Gary Cutting. It is a G->A switch at nucleotide position 1784, which results in a Gly->Asp substitution (see letter received Jan 8, 1990).
2. It has not been easy to send a 25-page document to 50 different places, even with a fancy FAX machine, not to mention the ones with machine or line problems. In addition, some transmission did not find their way to members' hands. In order to avoid the latter problem, letters are now sent with the investigators' names on the cover sheet. Please let me know the best way to identify yourself, if the current one is unsatisfactory. I will continue to do the mailing at night to avoid heavy traffic. It will also help if we reduce the number of pages to be broadcasted in the future. So, please write short notes instead of long letters. Also, pictures transmit poorly- please use schematic diagrams if possible.
3. Please do not encourage your friend(s) to submit their names to the consortium in order to receive newsletters only. I think we all understand that we are a working group and we expect contribution from each member.
Sincerely,
